About our orangery work

Designed around the property, not a product range

An orangery sits between a conservatory and a full extension. Substantial piers in brick, stone or render carry an insulated flat perimeter roof, with a glazed lantern set into the middle to bring daylight down into the centre of the room. The result feels like part of the original house rather than something added to the back of it.

The practical advantage over a conservatory is usable wall. Kitchen units, a sideboard, radiators, a television — all the things that are awkward in a fully glazed room have somewhere to go. The insulated perimeter also holds heat like the rest of the house, so the space works as an everyday room rather than a seasonal one.

We do not offer repair-only or supply-only work.

Everything we quote, we survey, install and guarantee ourselves. If you need a repair to something we did not fit, we are not the right people — and we will say so on the phone rather than waste your time.

Orangeries we design and build

Brick pier orangery

Piers built in brick matched to the existing elevation, the most common approach on Gloucestershire’s Victorian and Edwardian housing stock.

Cotswold stone orangery

Natural or reconstituted stone piers for period and conservation-area properties across the Cotswolds.

Rendered contemporary

Smooth render and slim aluminium glazing for a modern rear elevation with maximum glass.

Kitchen orangery

Designed around a new kitchen layout, with the lantern positioned over the island or dining end.

Garden room orangery

A quieter, more separate space at the end of the house, often with bi-folds opening the whole elevation.

Double lantern

Two lanterns across a wider span, keeping the roof proportion right on larger openings.

Common questions

Orangeries: your questions answered

An orangery has substantial brick, stone or rendered piers and a flat insulated perimeter roof with a glazed lantern in the middle. A conservatory is predominantly glazed with a fully glazed or solid roof. An orangery feels more like part of the house and gives you far more usable wall space.

Often not, but it depends on size, position, and whether the property is listed or in a conservation area. We check this at survey and tell you plainly whether an application is needed before you commit to anything.

Yes. Matching the existing elevation is a large part of what makes an orangery work, and the brick, stone or render specification is set during the design stage.

Typically three to six weeks on site including groundworks and brickwork, depending on size and specification. You get an indicative programme with the written quote.

Generally yes. The insulated perimeter roof and solid piers reduce the glazed area considerably, so the room retains heat far better than a fully glazed conservatory of the same footprint.

No. We only take on full design-and-install projects that we survey, fit and guarantee ourselves.
